A stainless steel, automatic International Watch Company, IWC Schaffhausen, Portofino watch with date complete with the original paperwork. This very handsome and high quality watch from one of the industry’s watch makers. This model, the Portofino named after the stunning Italian seaside retreat, dates to the 1990’s. It is everything that people come to expect and love from the German/Swiss watch maker; classic clean lines. Simple dial, clean stick hands, unfussy and very neutral. The dial in this example is a white enamel. So high gloss and clean. The hour markers are simple applied steel fine batons. This is also reflected in the hands, with very fine steel hands. There is a black printed chapter ring, along with the customary “Swiss” printing below the 6 o’clock marker, and the logo printing in both block and script fonts. The date window at 3 o’clock has a fine black frame which complements the black date printing. This really is a study of elegant simplicity.
The stainless steel case is also very classic. Fine dropped lugs come off the ends of the soft rounded case. The winding crown sits cleanly in a slight recess, which is marked with the iconic fish logo for IWC. The case is a screw back version with four screws keeping it firmly in place. The case is in perfect condition, and is unpolished. The satin finish back still has the case serial number clearly engraved into it. Underneath the case back is a beautifully finished automatic caliber 37521 movement. It is based off the ETA ebauche 2892-A2 and was used across the board in a large variety of IWC watches from the 1990’s through to the 2000’s. Once fully wound it boasts a 42 hour power reserve, and is decorated by IWC as one would expect.
The watch comes complete with its original steel signed IWC buckle, and original blank warranty card that the new owner can fill out with their own name if so desired. As aforementioned, the watch is in superb original condition throughout and is very easy to like and wear. There is next to nothing to not like about this fine watch.
